Here they come....

According to this Danish review, Suede played an excellent set last night, consisting mainly of older material and b-sides - while tonights show will be more 'hit orientated'! Bollox, I'd much rather see the 'shite song' show, allthough the setlist don't seem that impressive! Oh well, since there's been no proper hits on the last two albums, they shouldn't feature tonight, and I can most certainly live with that! Fingers crossed....

English blood, Irish Heart...

I spend my first extremely quiet friday night in a while, watching a couple of movies on Danish television. I started out with war classic "The Eagle has Landed" , which was actually rather crap. Then it was action time. "Ronin" is the kind of big-budget action movie I tend to enjoy. Big stars, loads of explosions and lots of shameless product placement. The best one in Ronin is where one guy out of the blue says: "I need something fast, effective and reliable... get me an Audi S8". Wink wink, nudge nudge. There is also promotion on behalf of my favorite whiskey, J&B's, the choice of everyone from Patrick Bateman to Danish crap actor/singer Michael Falch!

But one thing annoyed me in both films. The attempt to make characters Irish. In "The Eagle is Landed" Donald Sutherland (US) run around with a ridiculous accent and says 'lassie'.... even though there's no dogs around (haw haw). In Ronin both Jonathan Pryce (Welsh) and Natascha McElhorne (UK) are given thick thick accents , and Pryce is fitted with the cliche name 'Seamus'! They are obviously both IRA! Talk about stereotypes!

My beard, or lack of, is as scruffy (I prefer rustic though) as ever... I'll probably end up shaving it before tonights Suede concert... Suedeheads don't sport beards! Before the concert there's football at the pub - Aston Villa vs. Arsenal... should be a walkover, eventhough half the Gunners team are injured!

X marks the spot....

Wow, I just returned from a sneak premier of Fear X, and that was just amazing! Director Nicolas Winding Refn was there before the movie and spoke a bit about it. How money was raised and about co-screenplay writer Hubert Selby Jr., who apparently is 74 years old, missing 13(!) ribs and on one sixths of his original lung capacity! He also said something that really hit the nail on the head, he said that he wished for a more progressive turn in film, and culture in general. That people should leave the cinema with thoughts in their head that should last for days! I think that is spot on. Culture, and especially Danish culture, tend to be far to easily digested. It's not that I want to ban happy-go-lucky, feel good movies and songs, but there should be alternatives!

Fear X certainly was of that last kind. John Tuturro, who along with Steve Buscemi, is my absolute favorite Hollywood actor was brilliant. The film can best described as a mix of Fargo, Twin Peaks and Lost Highway - and was also blessed with some great supporting actors, especially Phil McIntyre was great as guilt ridden cop! The music, written by Brian Eno also fitted the eirie mood perfectly.

I think Fear X is a must see, almost a small masterpiece... on the other hand, my girlfriend thought it was the most boring film ever... so go figure....

a time to laugh, a time to cry... and a time to shut ya bleedin' keghole

Watched the Denmark-Bosnia game last night.... wish I hadn't though! Nuff said.

I'm not a big fan of Oasis, but I got to admit that Noel & Liam walk the walk and talk the talk. Also they must be every music journo's wet dream, and in this case I'm all with the Gallaghers! People like Chris Martin, Thom York, and the godawful Bono should try and keep all their bloody good intentions where they belong! What the f*ck is the point of talking war at a fight cancer gig! And Bono could probably raise enough money to cure cancer, AIDS, SARS & bad breath if he sold some of this shit. And btw I think the new U2 single, The Hands that Build America should alert the nice people at this place! Jebus it's 'orrible 'orrible!

Everywhere they go, the Brits wanna rock!

I must apologize; 3 entries into my new blog, and the theme is already obvious. This will end up as the worlds only Dodgy themed blog! I am really really sorry! Yes, yesterday I went down and bought the second Dodgy album, Homegrown!! It’s sort of all right, and I only payed around 20 Danish funnymoney for it (aprox 1.50£ or 3 Euro... I think) in a secondhand store!

But more importantly; In the same store I found THE best compilation album I have ever seen. It’s called Start - the best of the british, was published in 1994, and it’s f*cking brilliant. It’s a mix of 80's punk and new wave, starting out with Town Called Malice by The Jam, going through super songs like Baggy Trousers (Madness), Watching the Detectives (Elvis Costello), Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Tears for Fears), Save a Prayer (Duran Duran) to the downright cheesy, but still pretty good Relax (Frankie Goes To Hollywood), True (Spandau Ballet) and Young at Heart by the Bluebells! It's fantastic I tell ya - and it only cost me 18 bob!

Yesterday I also discovered that the Suede concert on Train are this Saturday - Jebus, I had forgotten all about it! I’ll have my fingers crossed all week in hope of a good concert.... 'cause they really aren’t that good anymore....

... and if anyone's interested; the Dodgy Blog is still available!

"I'm waiting for you behind the door...."

All morning I've been walking around listening to one of long forgotten britpoppers Dodgy's few, and rather unremarkable hits "In a Room". They really sound like pretty much everything else that came out of/in Manchester around 1992, but Dodgy still got a special place in my heart. It all comes down to the greatest case of mishearing and misunderstanding I have ever witnessed.

The scene is this fab hotel, where I worked in 99/00. My friend Morten and I was setting up a room for a conference, using tables that had a tendency to collapse when people sat down by them. The conversation went something like this:

Morten: "So, what ever became of Dodgy?" (Talking about the band)
Kristian: "I think they are up in the back of the storage" (Talking about collapsing tables)
Morten: (Confused, but still talking about the band) "What the f*ck are they doing up there?"
Kristian: "Well, they are utter useless" (True, no matter what I was refering to!)

... you probably should have been there!

In other news, tonight is the third time Transmission will kick off! It's an attempt to create a weekday indie-club, in the style of Trash in London. I applaud the initiative, but I think Århus might be a bit to small to gather an indie-crowd on a tuesday night! Still, it's cheap beer and quality music - I'll probably end up going!

So the story begins....

... and that is actually a dirty lie, since I actually created this blog on February 20th 2001, and haven't touched it since! Alas, 2 years later I am now ready to blog till I drop!

I can't help but wonder why I named it "My Campaign Towards" back then, I must have been soooo much more focused! Today it would rather been called "My sort of general direction...ish". Oh well, I might change it later on....

Since I don't have anything particularly interesting to post today, I might as well link to some other nice blog that's around (in the desperate hope that they'll link back, and people will actually start visiting this page... and I'll have more visitors than Roy's ol' dusty blog)

So try out Fauxhemian (for frequent updates on music and quality popular culture), Arseblog (For foul language and EVERYTHING Arsenal related) and if you wanna try your luck, go to Waitingforatruck (But don't say I didn't warn you).

That's it, not to bad for a first posting in 2 years!

And don't worry: "I'm not really Jenny from the Blog"
