And there aint no war in my head.. now

Not much going on right now. It'll be my birthday in two weeks time, and the day after that I'm going to London, which will be a blast. But right now it's just cold but sunny weather in Denmark and I'm doing nothing... a lot. Since that, in the long run, probably isn't healthy I've just agreed to work all of next week, hope the weather stays nice...

Weeping Willows are playing Voxhall on April 14th, as part of a new album promotion tour. They played here about 2 years ago, and it was a brilliant concert. Their cover of "There's a Light that Never Goes Out" was just gorgeous.

Update: The Geek Hierachy [via Wil Wheaton] brought a smile to my face. It's somehow nice to be higher up in the hierachy than "Erotic Fanfic Writers Who Put Themselves in the Story"

That great love sound....

So another night of free gigging gone by, and this time with famous Danes, wauv....
As it turned out there were three bands playing, first on was Danish band Learning from Las Vegas. Nice people, nice songs, but soooo boring.... and their inbetween songs banter was as much fun as watching the grass grow or waiting for that second Liverpool goal..... Jebus!

I would have liked to like the second band, I really would. After all Londoners The Veils had their new record produced by favorite of mine Bernard Butler, and they are after all British. But alas, I really didn't. The main problem was their leadsingers croaking voice which was just way to close to James Walsh outa Starsailors or Jeff Buckleys! After 2 songs I said to myself "This is pretty good" but after another 2 songs it had changed to "This is f*cking annoying"! A guy I spoke to afterwards described his voice as sounding like "He was constantly on the verge of throwing up", charming! The leadsinger also created the shows comic relief in an episode that went something like this:

Leadsinger: "Thanks... how do you say 'thanks' in Danish?"
Crowd: (General mumbling)
Leadsinger: "Tak?.... ok, how do you says 'thanks a lot'?"
Crowd: ( More general mumbling)
Leadsinger (Puzzled): "'Guten Tak'?... no, that can't be right...."
Crowd: (Roaring laughter)

The Raveonettes, whom I have wrongly spelled without the first 'e' for quiet some time, went on stage around 22.30, and did their thing.... which in their case means playing the same cords over and over and over and over and over again! It's energetic, well played, but not the least bit exciting. The guy I spoke to afterwards also made a good point. If you're gonna play high speed energetiv rock, it's lame to have sampled half the stuff at home. From the first stroke it was obvious that half the drums and even some of the bass were on a cd somewhere in the back of the stage.

So all in all, not the best concert ever, but again it was free and it was rock... so I'm not complaining... that much!

She clears her head with bourbon
'cause beer is so surburban

Our computer is still 100% screwy, so I'm on Uni once again. On my way down here I saw the saddest sight. In the middle of a very busy road lay a seagul that had been hit by a car. Unfortunatly it hadn't died of the first impact, so it just lay there with a broken wing, flailing a little, waiting for another car to hit it and put it out of its misery once and for all! Sigh....

It's been a nice weekend though. I was given a 2 free tickets to a double gig at Voxhall. First band, First Floor Power were mindnumbingly sh*t! A school experiment gone awry, with a bearded guy who played just tambourine and trumpet and a fat, big titted guy dancing around while playing keyboard. Their leadsinger looked like a crap version of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs Karen O, and I never liked her much! The Horror the horror!
Second band, The Hells luckily saved the evening! A garage rock three piece, 2 guitarists and a drummer, who just rawked. The concert ran a little short as the female guitarist had major amp/guitar problems, and ended up smashing one of her guitars in frustration. We met the other guitarist after the concert, a real nice guy! It turned out that First Floor Power had borrowed the guitarists amp and had plugged their bass into it, which had sort of f*cked it up. He said that they'd be back during the summer, and promised our band the support slot, so now I better start practicing a little.... and look for drummer. He also said that we should get in contact when we go to London next month... 'cause we are!

My New Years resolution about going to the UK more often really pays of, as were going on March 1st. My girlfriend and I alongside Roy and John. Along with the general niceness of being in London, we are going to see Fountains of Wayne which I really look forward to. They really have flair for writing brilliant popsongs, evident in the fact that I've been humming "Amity Garden" all morning, and I've only heard the song twice.

Tonight I'll go see The Ravonettes, on a another free ticket, also at Voxhall. I'm not their biggest fan, but they are a whole lot better than most other bands on the Danish scene right now, and it's free!

And Arsenal rocks big time, and the average Jose Reyes is already a whole lot cheaper than the average.. let's say... Chris Sutton Chelsea goal!
